Starz to Fold Encore HD

Starz Entertainment Group LLC plans to pull the plug on its Encore HD channel March 31, spokesman Tom Southwick confirmed Monday.
The network, which is carried on Voom’s HDTV satellite service, has no cable distribution. Voom is its only distributor.
Southwick said the network may be resurrected if channel capacity eases up on cable systems. He added that the decision to drop Encore HD wasn’t related to any uncertainty about the future of Voom, which Cablevision Systems Corp. may shut down.
