Seems that after TW got CBS and ESPN there's been zilch for adding new HD channels.
DISH and DTV are moving ahead (well, sorta on DTV they only have "BravoHD--I think it's called UniversalHD now?"), but with DISH adding in the VOOM channels, seems that TW is left in the dust.
Wonder how much longer we'll have to wait with these astronomical cable prices before they add some more HD content?

The current satellite industry hardware is in flux, moving to MPEG 4. Directv will soon be offering local channels and other digital channels in HD. Dish Network currently is also moving to MPEG 4. This has created a period of stagnation for new satellite customers whom are unwilling to purchase HD hardware that will be obsolete in the fall with the arrival of MPEG 4 HD hardware.
In answer to your question, I believe TW is aware of the satellite hardware issue and that is why we haven't seen any movement of new HD channels. TW is taking advantage of knowing that people wont switch to satellite until the fall because there is no "competitive pressure" to do so for the time being. This pause gives TW time to solve their bandwidth issue. If this is TW's strategy, they will be in trouble because I believe they wont be able to provide as many HD channels as the satellite companies will provide come fall with MPEG 4, they should take advantage and increase the HD offerings NOW to retain HD customers!
I for one will switch as soon as Dish Network (Voom HD Channels) releases an MPEG 4 HD DVR. The current HD 942 DVR is MPEG 2 and it will cost $250 for new customers. I want to wait and use the $250 for the new MPEG 4 version. TW may change my mind if they start adding more HD channels, however, like I said before, their HD offerings must not be piecemeal and be competitive with satellite offerings...

I hope Verizon comes out with a comparable service and a price war ensues. Looks like they are trying to battle TWC with the high speed internet service right now. See this link for more info.

Verizon has two fronts in their war with cable: FiOS TV and DSL. Currently, with FiOS TV Verizon is installing their fiber optic network and battling States on individual town franchise contracts. Cable companies know this will take Verizon a long time to complete. Individual town franchise agreements may bog down Verizon for a couple of years. On the other hand, advancements in DSL technology ( albanyhdtv.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1119129155) may give Verizon another front against the cable companies. DSL can now transmit HD video broadcasts. But Verizon needs to untangle their DSL and landline phone service for it to gain market share if they decide to move on this new technology. Offering DSL for $19.95 for 3 months ($34.95 thereafter) and forcing customers to also get landline phone service just doesn't work today with so many customers switching to VoIP services. The sleeping giant still needs a wake up call...

Is there any good reason why TW doesn't offer Starz HD? It's been available on other cable systems for quite some time now.
