I exchange the 4250HDC for a 8300HDC DVR.
Back in the days when I had Dish Network I remember I could create a guide for the Kids, a movie only guide, sports, a guide for only channels I subscribe, etc...
I haven't found the menu to create my own guides to the channels I subscribe. Is this not an option?

Does your HD Tivo allow for a separate guide for the kids?

Does your HD Tivo allow for a separate guide for the kids? I know my ReplayTV didn't, and I know Media Center doesn't. Only place I've ever seen this is on Dish and I have it now with DirecTV too--even the "Only What I Subscribe To" option which is great. Not sure why people don't include it, it's a great idea.

Does your HD Tivo allow for a separate guide for the kids? Yes..and more. I have my TiVo set up to require a 4 digit password to watch shows with a rating over PG. The password override lasts until there are 4 hours with no activity from the remote control. While I don't have it enabled on my TiVos, there is an option for a KidZone (its included in the monthly subscription), which allows you to set up your own KidZone guides. I'm sitting on the sidelines with the 8300HDC, just waiting to jump to HD Tivo when the SDV situation is resolved.

Since they fixed my CC issues, I turned in the 8300. I am back on CC's.

Anyone else out there with the SA4250 still have frequent issues with the channel freeze and/or "This channel currently unavailable. Please try again later" message? Happened a couple of times last night during the Rangers game on Versus. Mark H. had told me they still hadn't worked out a fix for either issue. Do most of you guys have the 8300s? Is this an issue with those boxes?

I have a 8300 with the DVR disabled and there are no channel freeze issues.

My neighbor has the same problem with his 4250HDC but not with his 8300HD DVR. The difference between the boxes besides the recording capability is that the 4250hdc has the cable card.

I just got a 4250HDC box today for my new LCD in my office. I'm not happy with it at all. A bunch of HD channels aren't tuning properly. All the Starz channels, HBO West... basically all the SDV channels. They give a still image every 4-5 seconds and I hear audio every 2-3 seconds. I went downstairs and checked my 8300HD DVR and it's working fine on those channels. Brought that box up to my office and it's working fine there too.
Going back to Time Warner to exchange this crappy 4250HDC for a new one to see how it goes. If it doesn't work, I might end up paying the extra $5 a month for the 8300 DVR just so I can watch TV with no problems. It's extremely messed up that the other only non-DVR HD box they offer has so many problems.

My 4250 was kind enough to reboot itself last night around 8:30. I've noticed a couple of times this week there must've been some overnight software updates, as the box was reset to channel 0001 in the morning. Maybe they've resolved the channel freeze issue. Now they can work on the spontaneous reboot issue.

I noticed yesterday that all my channel "favorites" that I'd programmed on my 4250 have been deleted.
