I have built a HTPC using vista as my OS. It has a dual decoder for standard cable and a single decoder for HD OTA and i have limited success using the above setup. Last year the HTHomerun was released. it has two Qam tuners built in and i would like to add this tuner system to my setup to record digital cable. the question i have is are the Digital cable channels we have from TW clear Qam or are the encrypted? I know that the premium channels are encrypted (HBO,MAX, and Showtime) plus the switched Video channels would be unseen. But what about all the others? www.silicondust.com/wiki/products/hdhomerun

Cable companies are only required to provide the local channels "in the clear". There have been reports of other channels that TWC have left in the clear. ProTuber posted the results of a QAM channel scan back in December 2006:

There have been a number of changes since then. The locals on 74, 104 and 105 are the same, with the addition of VTV on 104-5. NBATV has moved several times and is now on 115-41. SNYHD is encrypted. The 118 block is now on 120 with some changes. No AOL Music, but the legislature is now there on 120-3, and I've seen local high school sports in that group at times. The only other channel with anything unencrypted is 109-33, which is just ad slides.

Thanks for the replies.... It looks like i might as well just spend the money and get a better antenna for the HD stuff. and forget the HDhomerun. plus wait till Mcor cable cards come thru and cable card tuners are available without buying a complete system.
