Comcast today announced that it's adding TiVo's Digital Video Recording service for all programming, including High-Definition.
However, the service is not expected to be available until this spring.
"We're going to be starting the initial market launch in the springtime," Jeff Klugman, senior vice president for TiVo, told Reuters Monday.
Subscribers will be able to sign up for the service without need of an additional visit from a technician. The cable operator said the TiVo service would require a "modest monthly fee" but it did not specify what the fee would be.
Further details such as sign-up procedures and market launch dates were also not released in a company statement.
Comcast and TiVo signed a software licensing agreement more than a year ago, but the cable operator failed to meet its goal of launching the service by the end of 2006.
"I don't think it's taken an extraordinarily long time; we care a great deal that our product looks great and they care about building it in a way that really reduces their operational support costs," Klugman.told Reuters.
The two companies are showcasing the TiVo features this week at the Consumer Electronics Show.
"The combination of our signature Comcast On Demand and HD services with the TiVo interface will provide customers with the only integrated access to all of these outstanding services from one set-top box," said Mark Hess, Comcast's senior vice president.
The TiVo on Comcast service will include such popular TiVo features as WishList, TiVo Suggestions and SeasonPass.
