TiVo Inc. cut a deal with Cambridge, Mass.-based Brightcove Inc. to deliver ad-supported TV programming via high-speed-Internet connections to TiVo digital-video-recorder customers.
While Brightcove boasted that the company will allow both established TV networks and amateur video producers to deliver content to TiVo subscribers, the companies said they aren’t yet ready to announce any programming partners.
Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire said the first Brightcove customers that will use the service are brand-name TV programmers. Eventually, independent producers will gain access to the service, which is only available to TiVo customers who have “Series2 DVRs” wired to high-speed-Internet connections.
TiVo had previously attempted to reach an agreement with Netflix Inc. to deliver Hollywood movies to TiVo receivers, but the company met resistance from studios.
