Gemstar Fields Mobile IPG, Readies TV Guide Driven DVR Tool

TV viewers will now be able to tap into their TV Guide for local program listings, reviews and features on the go -- and later this year, they will be able to program their TV Guide driven digital-video recorders from their cellular phones.
Launched by Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. subsidiary TV Guide Mobile Entertainment Inc., TV Guide Mobile’s new interactive program guide is specially fitted for smaller mobile-phone screens, providing local program listings, viewing recommendations and editorial content.
Later this year, TV Guide Mobile Entertainment will also launch an updated version of TV Guide Mobile that will offer more tools and the ability to program their TV Guide DVRs via their cell phones.
In addition TV Guide Mobile Entertainment will launch a mobile, on-demand version of TV Guide Channel. The mobile version will offer short clips of TV Guide Channel content, as well as original content highlighting shows and movies airing on TV.
“TV Guide Mobile and the new mobile version of TV Guide Channel extend the reach of TV Guide and allow our customers to get the information and content they want delivered to them wherever and whenever they want it,” Gemstar-TV Guide senior vice president and general manager of digital media Richard Cusick said.
