I have an 8300 and noticed tonight when I turned on my receiver I was not getting 5.1 audio while watch some of Dante's Peak on Universal HD. I re-booted the box and sure enough the 5.1 audio was restored. This happened to me last Monday night while I tuned in to watch Prison Break. This time I went into the menu to see if the digital out was set to Dolby Digital. It was and when I switched out of the menu the 5.1 audio kicked in. Has anyone expirienced this before. I'm probably going to bring back the box and get another one. I have had this 8300 since thay came to the Highbridge office.

I noticed I did not have DD5.1 last night during the Sopranos, but thought it must be a network thing. After I read your post this morning, I turned on my system and switched to HBO on channel 1880. I still had 2 channel stereo, so I went to the Audio:Digital Out portion of the settings menu. It listed the Audio:Digital Out as Dolby Digital, however I was only getting 2 channel stereo on my receiver. I moved the highlighted cursor over to the Dolby Digital "status" and the DD5.1 indication immediately lit up on my receiver. The same thing happened to me previously during the 2006 Super Bowl and I posted a note about it here. I'm going to send an email to TWC and I'll post their reply when I receive it. Just another quirk on the 8300 DVR. Don't forget about the daylight savings "quirk", as daylight savings is this Sunday, April 2nd.

I'm going to check mine again today. I'll have to read your note on the 06' Super Bowl. I wonder why now this problem is occuring.
I just went to ESPN-HD and I have 5.1 audio as of now.

I've noticed this, too. I'm sure that this is directly related to TW's ongoing process of converting the analog stations to digital. I have a bigger beef with the EXTREME variations in volume between programming and commercials, which is also related to the digital conversion.

I thought it was just me having "weirdness" with the volume.
VERY VERY soft until you almost can't hear it, then it'll jump to VERY VERY loud.
last night, channels 201 and 436 were all pixelated too.

TWC replied to my inquiry this afternoon. We know about it and are working on it...yada, yada, yada. The full text of the email can be read here.
