Scientific-Atlanta and Microsoft Make It Official

Weeks after SBC Communications Inc. signed an Internet-protocol set-top deal with Scientific-Atlanta Inc., the set-top maker announced a collaboration deal with Microsoft Corp. for software integration for SBC and other IPTV ventures worldwide.
SBC plans to use Microsoft software to run the TV services on its Project LightSpeed platform. S-A won the set-top contract along with Motorola Inc.
S-A said the line of IP set-top boxes will support advanced codecs like MPEG-4 (Moving Pictures Expert Group) Part 10/H. 264 and VC-1 (Video Codec 1), and support both standard-definition and HDTV telecasts.
