So yesterday I decide to go to my local cable office in Troy to switch my 8000HD with my 8300HD. Based on people's experiences here, the experiences at the offices have been rather pleasant. Not so here. I get there with my girlfriend and this 60 year old woman starts barking, "The computers are down, the computers are down, I can't do anything!"
So we just said we wanted to exchange boxes. She asked "Why? They're the same..." I said , "Because the 8300HD has more features than the 8000HD" She asked rudely, "Did a buddy tell you this?" I told her, "No, technical people and Time Warner have told me this." She goes back into the back room, says there are three left, but couldn't do anything for me because Time Warner's computer systems are down. My girlfriend and I left, and I'll go this morning to do the exchange, hopefully this time with someone more pleasant.
I had a run-in with tons of rude people yesterday. It was uncanny!

If you manage to get it, please post your thoughts on the new box.

Got the box this morning. Slightly nicer lady at the counter today.
I LOVE the PassThrough feature. Very sweet. Regular channels now possess the proper aspect ratio on my TV, with the proper sized pillar boxes. However, the HD channels still crop the picture on the sides, with the HD graphics on ESPNHD being cut ever so slightly. This is rather annoying.
Other than that, I didn't notice too much else. The box is more responsive. It's MUCH lighter. I'm kind of annoyed that the Time on the box is now smaller than before, but overall, I'm happy.
Has the HDMI port been enabled? I'm currently using the Component Video, but am in the midst of purchasing a DVI-HDMI cable.
When will Multi-Room capability be enabled on the new box?

So I find out that it's not the cable box that's causing the overscan, its the stupid TV. Apparently, you can adjust this in a Sony by going to its super secret Service Menu, but I don't know how to get to it and no one wants to tell me about it online or in person (kind of like the Masons) so I can change the overscan. nyone here know how to get into Sony's super Secret Service Menu and know how to adjust the overscan on the TV?
Thanks!

Anyone here know how to get into Sony's super Secret Service Menu and know how to adjust the overscan on the TV? Thanks! I found out how to get into my Toshiba's "secret" service menu by going to AVS Forum and seaching for my model #. The Home Theater Spot's website also has these same type of forums. Good luck and be careful. You don't want to change something inadvertently.

Hey Skaggs, I have the same tv as you, the 57 toshiba. How did you get to that menu to fix the overscan/cutoff issue? And what needs to be changed?

Even if you screw up everything, you can revert back to the manufacturer's default settings. I made changes to my overscan (hsiz and vsiz), but now I noticed that there is a slight pincusioning effect going on that I never noticed before. Before I continue, I think I'll pick up a Digital Video Essentials DVD so I can make sure my picture is perferctly rectangular.
