Anyone know how large the Hard Drive is / Recording Time on the 8300HD? By going into diagnostic mode, I was able to see that the 8300HD has a 320GB of storage on two 160GB MAXTOR 4R160LO hard drives. Is it possible to transfer HD content form one box to another? (My current 8000HD to a new 8300HD) No, I don't believe so.

If anyone gets the 8300hd box, let me know if it still cuts off the picure on HD channels, if it doesn't i'll get one. I belive that is because your running on the default mode. It was cutting off for me too. Press the # button until your running standard 1080i. The default is "zoom." There is also "stretch." "Stretch" also cuts off a little. Not as much as "Zoom" though. I'm using the 8000HD, but I'm in Houston. Eric

I'm using the normal mode, and that's the cutoff I'm referring too. It does only cut off a little, but I'm paying good money for my cable and I expect it to work properly. My DVD's don't cut off so I know it's the cable service that's causing the problem, not the TV.

My DVD's don't cut off so I know it's the cable service that's causing the problem, not the TV. I found out that this is not the cable boxes fault, this is the overscan on your TV. You'll probably have to go into your service mode to fix it, but I wouldn't recommend it with either professional care or getting the Avia or Digital Video Essentials DVDs. They can help calibrate your TV. I'm going to guess the reason why your DVD isn't cropping is because the overscan on that input is set less than your TV input, or perhaps you just don't notice it. I went into the service mode in my TV, and was able to adjust the overscan, and I now get more of a picture. I just picked up the DVE DVD, so I'm planning on doing some hardcode fine-tuning to the sucker.

Well, I've got the 8000 HD DVR and it most definitely did NOT record anything this week. It showed LOST in the "scheduled recordings" but it didn't show up in red on the Guide. Sure enough, no recording. It didn't record Will & Grace, Apprentice, or ER either, even though they show up in "scheduled recordings" with a date of 11/4/04. TW DVR sucks. My Tivo has never messed up like this. I had to delete the LOST "scheduled" recording and add it back in for it to work. I was too stupid to do that with Thursdays lineup, so I missed all my shows. Guess I'll have to have my Tivo's do double duty in case the lovely TW DVR fails to record (it's done this many times before but that was before the last software update). is anyone else having problems of the 8300 not recording? the red record light comes on but after the show is finished it doesn't show up. While speaking to Albany TWC last week, I was informed of the following:
1. The DVR's WILL NOT record In Demand events. There is a "copy never" flag sent with the program that will not allow the DVR to record these programs.
2. The DVR's WILL record Pay-Per-View events, but only by manually pressing the record button after the event has started. Therefore, you cannot order a Pay-Per-View event (like boxing or wrestlemania, for example) and schedule a recording with the DVR.

TWC responded to my question on the HDMI port. The entire email is posted in the Email thread.

So, has anyone been able to use the "multi-room" capability of the 8300HD DVR yet? If it works even a little I'm going to exchange my 8000HD DVR forthwith. Does playing back an HD program to another room work as expected? Is this feature even enabled yet?

Here's what is posted on the Scientific Atlanta website:

Ah, too bad. That's a huge feature I've been waiting for for a while. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer.

Hey guys, first post, just got my 8300HD yesterday and my Sharp Aquos should be arriving today. Just read through this and am seeing some say that HDMI works, and another that it doesn't. Can anyone confirm either way? I don't want to go buy an HDMI cable to find out that it's non-functional Thanks.

Over at the Rochester HDTV site, they have confirmed that the HDMI port is active and works. My phone calls to the Albany TWC technical staff have confirmed this.
The problem is with my Toshiba HDTV and the 8300 DVR. It appears there is some sort of "hand shake" issue between the two where they can't "talk" properly to each other. I've been searching for an answer, but haven't had any luck so far.
The port should work with your TV. Save the receipt for your cable purchase, just in case. I have been told that Towne TV in Rotterdam has the cable in stock.
