The remote is slightly different but the command codes are the same. I brought the remote to the 8000HD DVR in to TWC when I exchanged it for a 8300HD DVR. The beautiful babe at the counter told me to keep the remote and did not give me a new one. I set the 8300 to "pass-through" mode and disabled the 480i widescreen and 480p widescreen modes. Now, when I tune to ESPN, FOX, or ABC, it displays 720P. All others (I think- I can't check right now due to my daughter watching a cartoon via the TiVo) display at 1080i. I don't believe the 8000 had a "pass-thru" mode and everything was displayed at 1080i. I does seem as if ESPN and FOX have more vibrant HD pictures with the 8300 than the 8000. More later as I watch more HD. I recorded Hustle and Third Watch with the 8300 over the weekend and have yet to watch.

In Comp USA's Sunday TU advertisement, it listed a 300GB Maxtor SATA hard drive for $239.99.
While I don't believe the SATA port is currently active on the 8300HD, eventually you will be able to make such a purchase and add recording capacity to your DVR.

The HDMI Port is active. I picked up and HDMI to DVI adapter and hooked up the 8300HDDVR. After a few hours, I am back to the 3250, just love the quality on that thing and did not notice to much of a difference. Anyone esle have any thoughts on the picture quality?

Hey guys , I just received my 8300hd and I concur with the others that have found that the picture is sharper. I really didn't think that the picture on my 8000hd looked that milky until I saw the new box . It is indeed a noticable differance at least on my setup . The box itself seems kinda low rent compared to the 8000hd . cheaper plastic much lighter unit. I am happy that I upgraded the box though. This is my 4th hd cable box upgrade in 2 years.

Has anyone been hassled at all when trying to swap out their 8000HD for an 8300HD? Anyone know if the Albany office on Washington Ave has any?

Skaggs, Not sure what you mean here, I can use all the different scan rates on my 8000. I just have to change it on the box by pressing the settings button on the remote. I can choose from 480i and p(wide or normal), 720p, and 1080i. The new box seems to do it automatically but the 8000 can do it through the settings. If you knew this but meant that the pass thru is automatic then I apologize for the info. Also, I do not think that the Toshiba accepts 720p so it upconverts to 1080i, correct? That is why I do not have 720p enabled in my settings, is this true or am I confused about the Toshiba?

The 8000HD most recent software update added a pass-through setting, which I was not aware of until after I turned in my 8000HD for the 8300HD DVR.
I had my 8000 set to display everything at 1080i, rather than deal with having to switch it every time I watched ABC or another network that used 720p.
My Toshiba (model 57H83) accepts 720p. At least it says so in the owners manual.

Anyone know how large the Hard Drive is / Recording Time on the 8300HD?
Is it possible to transfer HD content form one box to another? (My current 8000HD to a new 8300HD)

I was talking to my father last night on the phone and we were both watching Game 6 of the Sox-Yankees series. He made a comment about how he thought a woman in the left field seats touched the ball, and then a few seconds later I saw the play on my screen.
My point is that my Dad was watching SD, and I was watching HD via the 8300 DVR.
Apparently, the DVR plays the video a few seconds after the feed actually reaches the box. It must take into account the time to record the video and then display it on my HDTV.

I think it's more of a difference between the SD feed and the HD feed. I flipped between them last night on the 8300HD and noticed the SD feed was a few seconds ahead of the HD feed. Since both would have been recording to the hard drive, any delay caused by that wouldn't have figured in.

I noticed the same lag between SD and HD on the 3250 at work. It was about 3-4 seconds.

Anyone have any luck getting a 8300HD DVR box in the Capital District? I've tried Rotterdam (closest to my house) and I called the 866 toll free number and the person told me that if Washington Ave doesn't have them, then no one will.
Any luck?

A week ago, I just walked into the Washington Ave office (I didn't call ahead) with my old 8000HD and asked to exchange it for a 8300HD. The clerk made the exchange without any hassles. It looked like there were 3 8300HDs left on the pile he took mine from.
