I recorded a show on inHD last night and experienced the same thing (8000HD). The opening of the show had dark background, white lettering (titles, credits) and very low volume sound. The sound kept dropping, enough so that my received kept dropping in and out of Dolby Digital mode.
The end credits had black background, white lettering, but had music. The music kept dropping out as well.

yeah its kinda strange it just seems to wig out when the screen is fading or black with the credits . Same thing on my receiver it was slipping in and out of dolby digital. But this is not limited to teh digital outs as I have the same exact drop outs in the same spots on the analog rca jacks going to the tv . anybody experiencing this should contact time warner as we are sort of guinea pigs for this new technology.

Heard the audio drop out for the first time last night when watching the Sopranos. It occurred right in the beginning of the program.

They need to fix the audio problems with the 8000, or give me a credit on my bill for faulty equip. The update has been sent to the 3250 owners, it has to be very similar software. The one thing that amazes me about leasing equip. is that you seem less important than if you purchased it. Could you imagine buying this box for probably close to $600-800 and being expected to deal with constant audio problems, nope it would be going back to the store quickly. However, when it only costs us $8 extra a month we deal with it and keep paying the rental fee. At first I was patient with the problem because I really do like the box, but my patience is waning, or is it waxing, I can never remember the difference.
