The DVR is $9.95 per month if you have digital cable and just $4.95 per month if you have digital cable and a premium channel, such as HBO. From the TWC website: The monthly service fee for the DVR is in addition to the box and remote charge of $7.95.[/b] The HD DVR is the SA 8000HD. Just got off the phone with TWC. I asked the CS rep about the DVI port on the 8000HD. He told me that he was a beta tester for the 8000HD and the DVI port was NOT active. TWC expects it to be activated via a software patch in the near future. This is similar to how they rolled out the 3250HD boxes. He told me that if I wanted, TWC could have the box shipped directly to my house via UPS. I declined because the DVI port was not enabled. I also asked about the firewire ports that are shown in the user manual. He said that there are different versions of the 8000HD and not all of them come with the firewire ports. Those that do come with them will NOT have them enabled immediately. In a post on the AVS Forum 3250HD thread, "vegggas" stated that at the recent Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, " the 8000 and 8300 were using Serial ATA DVD burners and Serial ATA Drives for expansion and archiving."

The TWC rep asked if I was still interested in the 8000HD DVR. I told her I was, but only if the DVI port was enabled.
She responded, "The what is enabled?"
She did not know what a DVI port was and had no clue about anything regarding the DVR. Basically, she was calling just to set up an appointment for someone to come to my house to swap my 3250HD for the 8000HD DVR. She stated that TWC is not allowing people to trade their boxes in at the counter.
The call ended by her saying she would find out if the DVI port was enabled and then call me tomorrow.

Skaggs, Just out of curiousity, why do you only want it if DVI is enabled? I have signed up to receive the 8000 when it becomes available. I work nights and miss a few shows that I watch, I do not watch much broadcast television but there are a few shows that I tape and then view over the weekend. I would like to hear your views on the DVI issue. Kurt

I just picked my HD8000 DVR from TWC. I will post some more later tonight. It came brand new in a box, not loose like the other boxes.

Skaggs, Just out of curiousity, why do you only want it if DVI is enabled? I have 3 HD inputs on my TV...one DVI and 2 component. The two HD component inputs are used by my OTA STB and DVD player. I have the 3250HD hooked to the DVI. I called and set up an appointment anyway. I'll connect my DVD by S-video until the DVI is activated. The TWC rep that contacted me as a result of my pre-rergistration said they would only give the 8000HD's out by way of a visit to my home. She specifically said I could not pick one up. Of course, this is the same woman who said, "What's a DVI?"

When I picked up mine today the woman at the counter said if I replied to the email they would set something up in my home. I told her that the gentleman on the phone this morning said I could pick it up and that they were in stock. At first she tried to say they weren't in stock. She than talked to her supervisor on the computer and than proceeded to get me a box.
