I don't have the details in front of me, and I would never switch to Dish Network in Albany because they lack Albany HD locals and the YES network, but it's still of note that Dish lit up 22 more national HD networks today bringing their total close to DirecTV's (when you include RSNs and PPVs, DirecTV still has them by a handful).
But they now are both over 90, doubling Time Warner.

It'd be interesting to see a comparison with cable/FIOS/UVerse MPEG-2 HD with Dish/DirecTV's more efficent MPEG-4 HD since bitrate can't be used to compare the two. After all Blu-ray, cited as the "best" HD format is an MPEG-4 variant.

Another caveat to watch out or when trying to use monitors as HD displays is most of them don't support HDCP so you'll have trouble with new HD delivery formats if you don't watch out for that.

I hope not....the whole family is enjoying the movies... On another note, I picked up the new 2007 Vision Tek TV Wonder HD 650 Hybrid (ATSC/NTSC/QAM) tuner card. I don't understand something, maybe you guys or gals can chime in: I have cablecards on all my hdtv's and none can receive the new CNN HD channel because it's on SDV, however, my PC with this new Wonder card is receiving CNN HD in the clear over ATSC... I pulled the CC out of one TV and rescanned but no CNN-HD, so the tuner in the Wonder Card must be more sensitive...I wonder, why would they put CNN HD on SDV and still transmit over ATSC...doesn't that defeat the purpose of SDV? I think what's happening is your neighbor was watching it, so it was sending it at the time you did you scan. That's usually how that stuff works. See if it disappears at some point.

Well I've been so busy setting up xboxes, ipods, ipod touches , a new Media Center PC with Vista Ultimate and VONGO. Yep, today I dropped Starz and Encore and subscribed to Vongo, downloaded the TVersity Media Server and for $9.99 a month I can watch movies on my big screen via the Dlink DSM-520. Funny how Windows Media Center couldn't send my Vongo movies to the DSM-520, meanwhile, Tversity does a great job! The Vongo movies are DVD quality but the audio is just 2 channel PCM digital. That is the only drawback. I downloaded about 20 movies in one day....of course I have Road Runner High Speed Internet service...the movies download in about 15 minutes each... Now for my question, Does anyone use Windows Media Center? What atsc tuner card you guys recommend? or better yet, is there any tuner I can hook up with Tversity to stream the internet TV channels to my hdtv? I tried TVU but I couldn't stream any video to the tv. Vongo is built into Media Center, and streams to an XBOX360 just fine... not sure why it's not working for you but as long as you got it going. As for an ATSC tuner, I use a DViCO HDTV5 USB, works great.

I've been doing this for years using Windows Media Services (Server 2003) and Windows Media Live Encoder 9 hooked to my replaytv. Using DVArchive, and the Web Remote tools I can remotely change channels, watch recorded content, whatever--all using HTTP. Very cool. RoadRunner's limited upstream bandwidth limits me to only a few connections so I can't really "share" with you guys, but I stream at 182Kbps using 32Kbps for mono audio (Windows Media Audio 9.1), and the rest for video (Windows Media Video 9) and it looks great. Perfect for those Yankees day games at work

Since I'm like retarded or something, how do you insert an image. there's an image button, but that's just HTML code. I don't see a way to attach the actual file (or is that how it's supposed to work and you just link to a URL that houses the image itself?) I am actually hosting the picture on my own website, not sure if you can host them on this newsgroup itself--sometimes you can.

Rumor had been that DirecTV was going to offer "dual feeds" (both home and away) for all out-of-market games for Extra Innings. Well the guide is live, and it appears to be true. Not sure the details, but my guess would be as long as DirecTV has the RSN for each side, it will be available in SD as dual feed. The only other explination is since DirecTV puts the games on the RSN channel and the special MLB channels they could be doing it just for your in-market games, even if you're not an EI subscriber. We'll see...
It appears the HD feeds will all be home only, though. There are however 49 HD games on the schedule for week 1 for Super Fan subscribers.
Home openers start Monday at 1PM on Extra Innings
Opening night tomorrow at 8PM on ESPN/ESPN-HD for Nats/Braves.

You did not need NFL Sunday Ticket to watch this game on DirecTV. I watched it with no problems on my HR20-700 box in HD. I have the DirecTV Premier and SportPack packages. I do not know whether either/both of these were required as well. I definitely do not have the NFL Sunday Ticker package. Nope, NFL network is just part of the regular Choice package on DirecTV--their $49.99/mo package (although it's 29.99/mo for 12 mos right now!). The "sports" package is just for out-of-market RSNs. I just got my dish installed this week, I love it. See ya TWC.

This year, YES is doing many away games in HD actually. The full schedule, which indications as to which are in HD on YES are available here: www.timewarnercable.com/MediaLibrary/4/5/Content%20Management/Programming/documents/yankees_sked_2006.pdfAs for FOX's HD games, only the "Saturday Game of the Week" is usually in HD, that is whatever national game is their "feature" that day. This is during their blackout window, and in the past WXXA has carried those in HD. So only those days when the Yankees are the game of the week would there be a chance of them being in HD, and if it's not during the blackout window you usually either get ANOTHER game (since the Yankees will be blacked out), or no game at all since it'll be on "My 9" in NYC, and WXXAs feed of it will never be in HD in our lifetimes, I'm sure--I'm thinking UPN-HD OTA in NYC is the only way to get those... matter of fact, as of late those games have only ever been on TWC channel 3 in analog with no commercials (the raw feed). For the Met's Fans, the SNY-HD schedule is here: www.timewarnercable.com/MediaLibrary/4/5/Content%20Management/Programming/documents/mets_sked_2006.pdfNo indication that shows which are in HD though.

Last night DirecTV succesfully launched "DIRECTV 11", their 13th satellite. This morning, they confirmed operation of the bird, and expect it to be in serivce within 60 days from now. This is "99-b" for those of you with DirecTV. It paves the way for 70 more national HD channels and 700 more "local into local" channels across the US. Since Albany already has their LILs live, hopefully it paves the way for HD verions of CW and MNT someday. The launch was broadcast live last night on DirecTV channel 573, too which was kinda cool. Not sure if they've ever done that before. dtv.client.shareholder.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=300485
