Skaggs, Although Master is entitled to his opinion, even though it created a buzz here, I do not agree with his opinion that CBS will not provide a HD feed eventually. It looks like CBS will be the only major network not on TWC in HD soon and that should be enough pressure in itself and if not, I am sure that angry phone calls and emails from local viewers may get them to change their mind. TNT and WNYT is welcome news, good reason not to make the jump to VOOM, TWC is starting to offer a decent amount of HD channels and making my autopay each month a better value. Just my humble opinion. Kurt

If something is not done soon, I am switching to VOOM. They have something like 35 HD channels with ESPN and TNT HD coming soon. Plus the OTA antenna and receiver is included. I will lose my HD recorder though and that is big for me. Kurt

Almost like I had insider trading information, big surprise, TWC is going to charge for HDNet after the free preview.

I have 1867 and 1868 and I did not call to have them turned on, so I am wondering if this will be a free preview to get your interest, and then possibly a monthly fee in addition to your digital package??

PAY, I thought they were included in the HD package, sheesh. I might have to rethink my new HT hobby. EDIT--Info from a member on the SPoT is that it will be an additional $3.99 per month, not sure if this is true and/or verified.

Hi all, Have not been around in a while and was wondering what the status of the HDMI is on the 8300. My new Panasonic AE700U LCD FP came today and I want to switch from the SA 8000 to the 8300 if the HDMI is working. I need to order a 45' HDMI from pccables if it is and am going to have spend about $100 to get it.
TIA, Kurt

"I don't believe the 8000 had a "pass-thru" mode and everything was displayed at 1080i."
Skaggs, Not sure what you mean here, I can use all the different scan rates on my 8000. I just have to change it on the box by pressing the settings button on the remote. I can choose from 480i and p(wide or normal), 720p, and 1080i. The new box seems to do it automatically but the 8000 can do it through the settings. If you knew this but meant that the pass thru is automatic then I apologize for the info. Also, I do not think that the Toshiba accepts 720p so it upconverts to 1080i, correct? That is why I do not have 720p enabled in my settings, is this true or am I confused about the Toshiba?

They need to fix the audio problems with 8000 also, or give me a credit on my bill for faulty equip. The one thing that amazes me about leasing equip. is that you seem less important than if you purchased it. Could you imagine buying this box for probably close to $600-800 and being expected to deal with constant audio problems, nope it would be going back to the store quickly. However, when it only costs us $8 extra a month we deal with it and keep paying the rental fee. At first I was patient with the problem because I really do like the box, but my patience is waning.

Thanks Skaggs, I am going to contact TWC on 5/11, I just thought that if I posted here and someone else was experiencing the same problems that it might be a more widespread software problem and not just a bad unit. But it appears I may have a bad STB, if that is the case I will replace with a new one, but if it is more widespread I may wait till they work out the kinks.

Well I must have a defective unit, it is not storing shows again and I have to continually go and redo the record list. To make matters worse I was watching a recorded show last night and it kept switching channels to a Adult PPV channel(875) while I was watching. I am going to cancel this thing, I have had to do numerous reboots and reprogram the menu and it makes my wife angry, she is not very tech saavy. It amazes me when companies put their product on the market to quickly before working out the bugs, good thing I did not buy this unit.

Just a quick update, I did the reboot and it seems to have helped. I tried to watch NYPD Blue today and it was in slow motion without any sound. I did the reboot and the show was fine, no audio problems and it is now saving my recorded list. Thanks for the help. Kurt

Skaggs, I only have one episode of Survivor on my hard drive so that is not the problem. I delete everything after I watch it.

Thanks Slayer, I will give that a try, and if no luck, I will attempt to switch out the box with TWC.

Well when I got home from work last night I watched a recorded version of ER, it was a repeat but one that I had not viewed. The audio was awful throughout the entire show, more of the Rice Krispie problem I posted before, snap, crackle and popping. To make matters worse my saved programs in the record list are not saving and I have to go in each week and reschedule them. I pay for this box because I work nights and there are about four network shows that I record weekly, this is becoming a real pain in the a.. I leave power to the box all the time, not sure what is going on. Before the box would record the show even if it was on a different night or time slot, but now nothing. Any ideas out there? Kurt
