Did anyone else notice that the HD broadcast of the Packers/Panthers game was not in HD all night? I only watched until halftime but I noticed the black bars up until about 4 minutes to go in the first half.

They would probably have to do it in a 24hr. delay if they did produce it in HD, sorry could not resist. NBC is dropping the ball with HD sports coverage, but we do have JOEY in HD.

Disappointing but understandable, horse racing just does not generate the viewership that other major sporting events do. Oh well I will be there live, and in person for the Great Summer Derby, as I have had a table for the past four years near the finish line. Hopefully, soon, tv viewers will recognize horse racing for the great sport and entertainment that it is.

What a joke, the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs have three MNF games, the Giants get none. NY plays in the largest sports market in the country, quite possibly the world, and they can not get a primetime game on ABC. Well they might get a ESPN primetime game, but I can't get ESPN in HD. So I have to hope that the FOX promise that they will be going to 720p this fall will be in time for football season because that will be the only way to see the Gmen in HD. To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement. I think it is time to move the games to 8pm EST so people on the east coast can watch the games at a reasonable time. Stepping off the soapbox now. Kurt

Decent news, 1080i or 720p would be better but I guess the 480w will have to do. Time to set the 8000 to record the game.

Did anyone watch the Emperor's New Groove on ABCHD last week? It was on last Saturday night and I recorded it for my girls to watch later. Well during the program, about halfway through, it switched from HD to SD for awhile and then went back to HD after about two commercial breaks. I have posted previously about problems with my HDDVR and was wondering if anyone else noticed this problem? I have rebooted a couple of times lately because of audio problems and losing program lists in my guide and thought this might be another issue with the box and not the actual program feed. Kurt

Wonder if the Toronto/Red Sox series scheduled for the 10th and 11th will be blacked out. I have the HDDVR set up to record the games, as not all of us New Yorkers are Yankees fans.

Tony, Fox is not broadcasting in HD yet, sometime in Sept.'04 I believe, Fox is ED in our area. I think this means that it is 480p(widescreen) currently and will go to 720p when the switch is made. Kurt

Well I have to say that for $3.95 I will probably suck it up and pay them some more money. I would not have done it for $6.95.

Well at least you got a reply from WRGB, they did not bother to reply to my email that I sent to them and TWC. Now I must say that in my profession I am taught and trained to hear both sides of the story before forming an opinion or should I say conclusion. I have learned through countless interviews that there are three sides to the story, the stories you are told by both parties and then the truth. I must admit after reading the TWC emails and press releases and seeing that big non-HD green screen on channel 1806 that I was ready to boycott CBS, Wrgb and everything to do with them, however, I am now rethinking my position. Maybe TWC should step up to the plate, after all they are charging us for the digital tier and HD STB's. I just might cancel my TWC digital package and get the OTA receiver and antenna for HD, because after the initial purchase of equip. it would be FREE. I may have jumped the gun to quickly in backing TWC, but I do think that the courtesy of a response, to my email, from WRGB would have been nice. Kurt EDIT-Skaggs just realized I should have probably posted this in another forum since this is the email forum, feel free to move it if necessary.

The following message was sent by VP Pete Taubkin from TWC in reference to the email I snet him and the General Manager at WRGB. It should be noted that I have yet to receive a response from WRGB, and the TWC response was received in less than a day.
" Thanks for your note. I can only say that at this point, we share your frustation. In the case of WRGB we actually do have an agreement in place that would allow the station to deliver their HD signal to us. Operating with the understanding that they would in fact deliver it, we dedicated a channel (1806) some time ago for the purpose of receiving their signal. As you may know, and aside from WMHT, which we expect to have once they are ready, WRGB is one of only 2 local broadcast stations that have yet to provide us an HD signal for carriage on our system. Unfortunately, until the station allows us to carry the signal, we cannot do so. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. " -----Original Message----- From: kia303 Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2004 11:19 PM To: tlong@wrgb.com; Taubkin, Pete Subject: HDTV on Channel 6
I am writing to complain about the lack of an agreement between your station and TWC to carry HD signals through TWC. Your commercials about free HDTV are quite comical, if free means buying an OTA antenna and a HD STB, then yes it is indeed free. How many capital district residents do you think purchased the system just mentioned? My guess is that it is very few, and several probably own the HDTV with a set top box provided by TWC. As consumer's we have spent a decent amount of our hard earned money to receive this technology but it is being withheld from us because of a lack of an agreement. I was really hoping that we would have WRGB in hi-def for the SuperBowl, but that will not happen this year. Please think of your customers when trying to negotiate, it will become more important as more consumer's avail themselves to this technology. Sincerely, Kurt

I want ESPN HD as much as anyone.I also think everyone is going to disagree with me but here's my opinion about TWC adding ESPN HD and putting it in a package for $6.95. I am currently paying about $110 per month for TW Roadrunner and Digital Cable. For this I'm getting INDH and INDH2 included.I am not getting HDNET and HDNET Movies. Now if this package is the case I am either going to be paying the same and LOSE 2 stations or pay $6.95 more and get 2 stations I was already getting and ESPN HD while I'm already getting ESPN SD. Is TWC going to charge us more when ESPN2 comes on board? Or are they going to put ESPN2 in a package with TNT and the DVR? Where does it stop?If the cable companies are going to force us to buy packages they should also allow us to get rid of stations which we don't watch. Just a little venting. I agree with you completely econ, as much as I would like to see another NFL game in HD each week I will not pay another $6.95 a month. My bill is also the same as yours, about $110 a month with RR, and that is already outrageous and a source of disdain with my wife. If this keeps up we will soon be paying for all HD content, might be time for a switch to satellite and OTA.

Master, Thanks for clearing it up, sounds like you have some good contacts and knowledge of the game. No offense, but I hope you are way off base with your conclusions of no WNYT, ESPN or WRGB HD for TWC. Kurt

Master, Your posts certainly have raised the blood pressure of some here, not myself though. That being said you seem to have some insider knowledge as to programming with WRGB and WNYT, where does that insight originate? Now I am not accusing you of flaming here but when you make these comments about knowing it is not going to happen then some have to wonder what you base these posts on. Maybe you could shed some light on where the info comes from, I think inquiring minds would like to know. If I had information about a topic that someone is interested in then I would certainly qualify it with my source. Let us in on your clandestine info?? IMHO, these two major networks and cable provider have to come up with a deal sooner or later. Kurt
