Time Warner moving analog channels around

From the latest programming notice.... I don't understand why they are getting rid of some of the MOD channels, I thought they were quite popular.

Looks like they are making room for more digital bandwidth by getting rid of a few analog channels.

Speed channel will be relocating from the Digital Sports Tier to the Classic Cable/Standard Tier on April 1. Starting on or about April 15, 2010 digital equipment will be needed to continue viewing the following channels (these channels will remain in
their existing packages and they will continue to be available in a digital format that can be viewed using digital cable equipment, such as a digital set-top box or a CableCard
equipped Unidirectional Digital Cable Product – UDCP): Oxygen, SoapNet, CMT, Speed. Starting on or about April 15, 2010, “Style” will move from the Standard Cable tier on channel 77 to Digital Cable channel 355. Digital Equipment and a subscription to
Digital Cable will be required to continue viewing “Style.” Starting on or about April 20, 2010, the following channels will be repositioned but remain in their existing packages:
National Geographic from channel 76 to channel 78, MSG from channel 73 to channel 54, Versus from channel 75 to channel 44, and Shop NBC from channel 44 to channel
1120. Starting on or about March 29, 2010, National Geographic Wild will be added to the Digital Basic tier on channel 410 and FOX Reality Channel will be deleted from Digital Basic tier channel 410. Movies On Demand Action channel 1015, Movies On
Demand Comedy channel 1016, and Movies On Demand Drama channel 1017 will no longer be available after 3/31/10. Channel 1125 Cornerstone to be deleted.
WRNN, Kingston, NY to be deleted (except for Kinderhook).

I think much of this has to do with getting rid of decent channels in analog 72 thru 78.

People (like me) who do not subscribe to Cable TV, but do subscribe to Road Runner or TW-Phone, are currently able to split the cable and run it into a cable-ready TV and get those channels. After the moves shown in steveb's post there will only be MSG on 78. 72 thru 77 will be vacant, unless something new in analog moves in.

That's because those are the channels used by TW for data. By clearing out channels adjacent, they are clearing out room for more data, not necessarily the ability to watch channels in that area if you have internet-only service.

When Are they going to move those channels, they are still there and what new channels are going to get?

72, 77 and 78 all have screens with text saying they have moved.

According to the latest channel change notice from 4/19 TW is adding WYPX HD (Ion) but there is no date.

You can expect TWC to begin slowly/steadily moving analogs to digital to regain bandwidth with the eventual complete transition to a digital line up except for maybe very basic service. However, if they employ DA Converters they may go all digital. I think that is a few years off, but will happen.
