There will be incentives Posted on March 5, 2008 by James Segars Filed Under HD DVD, Deals, RetailersWith the pain of losing the format war still fresh in the minds of HD DVD owners worldwide, jumping into Blu might be the last item on your "to do" list, but if what we’ve been hearing is indeed true, at least a few of you will be sitting pretty with a new Blu-ray player. According to Circuit City employee in Chicago, the electronics giant will be offering an unspoken, lightly advertised, trade-in program for customers who purchased an HD DVD player within three months of Toshiba’s official announcement. The details for the trade-in were outlined in an internal memo which indicate that eligible customers will be able to swap for a Blu-ray player of their choice — while paying any price difference — or they will be given a gift card of presumably equal value. None of us at FWC are eligible, but we’re curious to know if any of you will have success. It’s great to see that Circuit City is looking out for the consumer, but in all honesty their deal pails in comparison to a recent promotion offered by Sony Electronics Switzerland. www.formatwarcentral.com
