DirecTV to Add 24 Local-HD Markets

DirecTV Inc. announced the next two-dozen markets that will receive its local HD programming.
The direct-broadcast satellite provider said it will begin offering HD programming from the four primary broadcast networks -- ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC -- in the first of the 24 new markets in April.
Subscribers with the appropriate HD-receiving equipment who subscribe to a DirecTV programming package that includes local channels will receive both the standard-definition and HD signals at no extra monthly charge.
DirecTV currently offers standard-definition local channels in 141 markets and HD local channels in 12 markets: Atlanta; Boston; Chicago; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; Detroit; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Tampa, Fla.; and Washington, D.C.
The 24 new HD markets will be: Baltimore; Birmingham, Ala.; Charlotte, N.C.; Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Fresno, Calif.; Hartford, Conn.; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo./Kan.; Miami; Milwaukee; Minneapolis; Nashville, Tenn.; Orlando, Fla.; Phoenix; Pittsburgh; Raleigh, N.C.; Sacramento, Calif.; Salt Lake City; San Diego; Seattle; St. Louis; and West Palm Beach, Fla.
