Intellon Enhances Customer Experience With HomePlug-R- Technology for EchoStar; New Component Integrates Multiple Receivers, Distributes Whole-House Audio

News Release, SUPERCOMM 2005
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intellon Corporation announced that EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) has selected HomePlug(R) Powerline technology to enhance its DISH Network satellite TV service audio and data communication for its receivers. The HomePlug 1.0 technology will be added to EchoStar's DISH Network(TM) satellite television receivers to integrate multiple receivers with a single connection and distribute satellite radio through the whole house.
Traditionally, customers were asked to plug each receiver into a separate telephone jack. But with DISH Network's new HomePlug-embedded receivers, consumers will need only one telephone connection regardless of the number of boxes in their home. Subscribers can also enjoy CD-quality music throughout their homes by connecting their HomePlug-enabled audio receiver to any power outlet.
"We are excited to enhance the customer-friendly nature and superior technology of our products through HomePlug's robust receiver component," said Mark Jackson, president of EchoStar Technologies Corporation. "DISH Network's goal is to create an optimum entertainment experience, and we expect Intellon's HomePlug technology to play a significant role."
"As consumers demand a more streamlined distribution of whole-house digital audio and video entertainment, DISH Network is taking the initiative to meet this demand through Intellon's HomePlug technology," said Charlie Harris, CEO of Intellon Corporation. "We are pleased that DISH Network selected our integrated circuits to support these innovative new applications."
Intellon's INT5200 HomePlug integrated transceiver is used in EchoStar's high definition DISH Player-DVR 942.
