SETANTA SPORTS LAUNCHES ON DIRECTV
APRIL 22, 2005
Setanta Sports will launch a new channel in the US, offering an extensive line-up of popular European soccer programming.
It will appear on DIRECTV, the country’s leading digital television service, on April 26, 2005. It will be available to residential subscribers for $11.99 a month and commercial subscribers for $100 a month. It will air seven days a week, 18 hours a day through August and then expand to a full, 24-hour channel.
The DIRECTV carriage agreement is part of a long-term strategy by both parties to serve what they describe as the increasing demand for European and international soccer in the American market.
The channel is expected to attract an audience from various ethnic communities and predominantly male 25-54 European, expatriate soccer fans living in the US.
Setanta Sports is also negotiating digital distribution deals with other cable, satellite, broadband and wireless providers.
