I've been curious since I got up here(I go to school at RPI, but live on LI when not at school) why time warner doesn't have FSNY-HD. They have MSG HD and they are both owned by cablevision. On top of they have FSNY. Has there ever been a reason mentioned on why they don't have it? Is the FSN teams not considered popular enough to justify it here?
I normally don't really care, but the Rangers are on FSNY-HD on Saturday and so it brought it forward in my mind again.

It's a good question. TW doesn't really give reasons for not giving us certain HD channels. Even if TW has carriage rights nationally, it is up to the local office to decide what HD channels to provide.

Yea, I know that with national channels. It just seems odd they carry every other RSN for NY in HD, I thought there might have been a specific reason.

It's probably because SNY carries the Mets, YES carries the Net and Yankees, and MSG carries the Knicks and Rangers. Albany doesn't have any "local" teams on FSN so why carry them I guess. I believe they carry Devils sometimes, but that's not even a NY team. Islanders and Sabres are both not available in Albany unless they play the other 2 teams. It'd be a waste. We have it on DirecTV in HD, and it's usually just blacked out when Islanders or Sabres are on anyway here. If you have Center Ice, though, you get FSNNY in HD anyway.

I think the Islanders part is what I was missing. I was unaware they didn't show in ALB. The Sabres actually do show here sometimes though(there usually on the MSG SD channel)

DirecTV defintely blacking it out here, though, and just like TW it's never on the MSG-HD, it's always on "NYa" -- an MSG-alternate feed--but blacked out.

FSN NY is changing its name to MSG Plus on March 10. Other than "fusing" the network and the Web and adding a 24-hour news ticker, it appears programming will remain the same, continuing to air all of FSN's national programming. LinkI wonder if the change will help get the HD feed here in the Capital Region.

I was thinking the same thing, but I doubt it due to their basically being no content change, other than possibly expanded coverage of non-game Islanders and Devils things. I doubt any added content will be in HD, so it seems there will be no reason to add it.
