The network already has three carriage deals.
October 13, 2007
By Phillip Swann, tvpredictions.com ESPNews will launch a High-Definition simulcast channel in March 2008.
That's according to an article by Multichannel News.
ESPN officials say that DIRECTV, Comcast and Time Warner Cable has agreed to carry the high-def channel.
ESPNews, which offers 24-hour sports news and highlights, will be the third ESPN network to go high-def. ESPN and ESPN2 already offer high-def simulcasts.
Multichannel News reports that ESPNews HD will feature a high-def "sidelines graphic," which will wrap around the top left and bottom of the screen. The graphic will display news, scores and other sports information.
“Our HD viewers will have an unprecedented opportunity to view pristine 16x9 HD highlights accompanied by an abundance of real-time information from all areas of the sports world,” said Rick Paiva, ESPN's vice president of creative services.

It should be noted that Time Warner also has a deal to carry Versus/Golf HD, but has not added the channel to the lineup.

This is the HD channel that I most want TWC to add. Since TWC already has a carriage agreement for it (I believe), I'm hoping it doesn't take too long after the launch for TW-Albany to add it to the lineup. But knowing their history, I'm not expecting it for a while.

I watched the 11:30AM showing of ESPN News HD on ESPN2 HD. Pretty slick screen setup with all the stats around an HD video window.

Can you post some screen shots of it? I don't have the ability to take screen shots. The screen is almost exactly like those posted above.

If anyone wants to check out the HD version of ESPNews, ESPNHD should have the feed for a couple hours Wednesday night because the Yankee game will be blacked out here. They normally show News during blackouts so I assume they'll do it in HD now.

These screen shots at least look like HD. It'd be annoying if the channel was similar to FOX News HD, which is basically looks like HD graphics bordering an SD feed. I'm assuming it'll be SDV?

ESPN News HD is now on 1872. Some of the text on the left side of my TV gets cut off... like my screen isn't wide enough... this also happens sometimes with CNN HD. 26 'in tv.

ESPN News HD is now on 1872. Some of the text on the left side of my TV gets cut off... like my screen isn't wide enough... this also happens sometimes with CNN HD. 26 'in tv. This is called "overscan". Someone who knows how to enter and modify your HDTV's service menu could correct this, although it is typically very tricky.
