Time Warner Cable to Crank up the speed
December 7, 2006
Time Warner Cable Email to Road Runner Residential Customers
Time Warner Cable, the company that was first at fast and first at fiber optics, is increasing your speed again. We're doubling it in the new year ... for no extra cost.
In the first quarter of 2007, Road Runner will be doubling the download speed for its residential customers to 10 Mbps. Our Time Warner Cable Business Class customers will experience similar increases in speed.* The same monthly price that you've been paying will stay the same.
Increased speed. Same price. Great deal.
We haven't told the media yet. This is a special notice directly to you, our loyal and valued Road Runner customer. In the coming weeks, you'll see more information about this exciting improvement in your internet service.

Too bad it's still more expensive than Verizon and in my area, we are WAY oversubbed. Even "local" to TW, at the current 8Mbps, I'm getting MAYBE 2 Mbps download. With Verizon FIOS I'm getting somewhere around 6-8Mbps to Verizon.
But it's good to know that they're responding to economic pressure.

I get 9661 download and 1600 upload with FIOS and it's $10/month cheaper than TW. Of course, I 've had it for 6 months too, whereas it took TW this long just to finally crank up the speed? (last time when TW was supposedly at 4Mbps, I was getting about 20% of that to TW own servers). But it's nice to know that some people are at least getting the speed that they're paying for.

Yeah, but you're getting some pretty good speed though. Apparently my neighborhood was over subscribed given the 20% QOS I was getting to TW. I just wish I had FIOS TV (how much longer?)

I do not want to sound like a TW fan boy but FIOS customer service is horrible. Two times I have tried to move my RR and phone to them from RR and both times they messed up the date. I have missed two days from work. Each time they told me "we can do it in 2-3 more days". Both times they could not guarantee the "new" day. I think I will stick with RR fro now until FIOS gets their act together.

What are you guys using to measure your speeds? I have always used this website: reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.htmlCan you post a link to your method? Also, do you have to reboot your TWC cable modem to pick up the new increased speeds?

I use Network Magic ( www.networkmagic.com) , you can download a free trial and I did reboot my cable modem before performing the test.
