Time Warner Cable will make truTV available in high definition on channel 1220 to its subscribers in time for Wisconsin's second-round NCAA Tournament game on Thursday.
Time Warner Cable said in a press release Tuesday night truTV HD will be made available to all subscribers at the latest by 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the local market. Some areas may have the channel before that time.
The first game on truTV Tuesday night, UNC Asheville vs. Arkansas-Little Rock, was available in HD in some areas.
The new truTV HD channel will not be available after 6 a.m. on March 21.
Two NCAA Tournament games were played Tuesday on truTV, and another two are scheduled for Wednesday on truTV.
By adding a truTV HD channel it means at least nine games of the NCAA men's basketball tournament on truTV will be available in HD to most cable subscribers in the Milwaukee market and the state of Wisconsin. Time Warner Cable is the largest cable TV carrier in Wisconsin.
This no doubt will be welcome news to Time Warner Cable subscribers in Wisconsin who faced the prospect of watching both the Wisconsin and Marquette men's basketball teams play their second-round NCAA Tournament games in standard def only. The Badgers play Belmont at 6:27 p.m. Thursday, and the Golden Eagles play Xavier at 6:27 p.m. Friday. Both games are on truTV.
For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, all games in the event can be seen nationally - on either CBS, TBS, TNT or truTV. High definition is available for CBS, TBS and TNT, but until now not for truTV in many markets, including Milwaukee.
For example, truTV is available on channel 49 on the standard tier or channel 220 on the digital tier for Time Warner Cable subscribers in the Milwaukee market.
Last week, DirecTV, a satellite service, announced it had added truTV in HD to its channel lineup. Dish Network and AT&T U-verse subscribers already had truTV in HD available to them.
On Monday, Charter Communications announced it had added truTV to its lineup, channel 651 on its expanded basic tier. Charter is the second largest cable carrier in Wisconsin.
According to The Nielsen Company, there are 370,770 households in the Milwaukee designated market area that get Time Warner Cable, which is 67% of households wired for cable and 41% of all TV households in this area.
