As far as I can tell this just happened to me yesterday. I used to be able to get 18-6, 18-8, 18-13, 18-11, 18-15 and a couple others without a cable box. They have now all vanished.
Anyone else noticing this?
I find it really annoying as I found the pictures on those channels looked better than their counterparts that went through the converter box.

I would hope this is either a glitch or just temporary while TW moves some things around. I'm no legal scholar and someone else on the board certainly knows more about this than I but it is illegal for cable companies NOT to provide the local affiliates of the broadcast networks in the clear.

ok here's what I found out....
Those channels have been moved...for example...18-6 is now located at 6-1...18-10 is now...10-1, etc.... Re-programmed my TV and they are now there.

Panthers, I don't think you are correct. The stations you are watching are not HD stations (6-1; 13-1). They are digital stations. The old HD stations used to have the HD after the number,on the channel list. Check out WXXA channel 8, which is FOX, you will see it still has the HD after the number.
I just had the time warner techie guy to my house because I re-scanned the channels and none of my HD stations are there. All of the 18- stations are gone, as has been reported. Including ESPN, golf channel, etc. that all used to come in in HD. this happened 3 days ago when TWC started moving stuff around. Techie states condescendingly that TWC had nothing to do with this. I disagree. He told me other customers are complaining about it as well. This is NOT COINCIDENCE. The only way to receive HD signals on your ancillary TVs (the ones not connected to a TWC converter box) is to rent more TWC converter boxes for your other TVs. You think TWC had nothing to do with this??

Oh I know they're digital stations.... Those "18-" channels have been moved to "6-1", "10-1" etc ...located now in similar locations as those who do not have cable. I don't recall ESPN and Golf channel etc being availble in HD without having a box....

I don't have cable anymore to check, but according to the SiliconDust Lineup Server the locals have been moved to real channels 110-113 in the same resolutions as broadcast. Ion HD has been added on 113. The NYS Legislature is on 95 and there are less interesting things on 116 and 121. If your receiver can scan individual channels, try those. Or do a complete rescan; it should pick them up. Note that these are real RF channels, not the virtual ones mentioned in previous messages.

Played golf with some friends yesterday and asked them. Apparently we are not SUPPOSED to receive HD stations unless we have a setup box on every TV. so I guess we were getting it for free? Anyone know anything about this?

The FCC requires cable providers to carry you local digital stations via ClearQAM. The locals are unencrypted and not SDV. Any set with a QAM tuner should get them. Time Warner has the tendency to add a few others into the mix as well. In my market, we get ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, MyNetwork, CW, PBS, WGN and ION all in HD via ClearQAM along with some preview channels.
TW CSR's will tell you that you need a set top, but that's because they are poorly trained/informed. If all you want are your digital locals, then a straight cable connection should get them if the cable company has a carriage agreement in place.

Yes. We still get digital stations--they have a suffix like "WNYT-DT" in the channel listings, and are designated with a -1 after the number, i.e. there are 2 stations under 13, the first being just 13, then 13-1 is the digital version. However, up until a few days ago, there were three, the third being 18-13 (which had the HD suffix), i.e. WNYT, WNYT-DT and WNYT-HD.
This was the case with a lot of stations--ESPN channel 24 had two listings: ESPN and ESPN-HD.
where did the HD stations go, is what we are trying to figure out??

The local channels are still available in clear QAM. As ebo explained they have been moved to different physical channels. As panthers815 explained they have also just been renamed. 6-1 is exactly the same channel that you used to tune as 18-6. Although TWC's naming is inconsistent (for example 4-1 is WNYA-DT, 6-1 is WRGB-DT, 10-1 is WTEN-DT, 11-1 is WMHT-DT, 13-1 is WNYT-DT while 8-1 is named WXXA-HD and 15-1 is named WCWN-HD) they are indeed the HD digital channels. So, just stop arguing, re-scan and continue to enjoy the local HD channels as before.

My mother-in-law was had to return her HDTV under warranty, so I set the new one up for her. After scanning for channels, I noticed NBATV HD is in the clear on channel 103.218.

Ever since the change I have not been able to get fox in HD. In one of the previous posts it mentions wxxa at 8.1 but I get wnya on that channel. If anyone know where it went to let me know. Thanks! I'm in the Pittsfield, MA area.
