I'm set for next Thursday!!! (They could have done it on Tuesday, but I wasn't available) Do we have any sense as to the amount of compression Fios uses as compared to TWC? All of the reports that I have read online say that Verizon does not apply any additional compression to the HDTV channels. I don't know if that is the current status, but we'll know soon enough.

The two issues for me are: How does FiOS handle the Cable cards for my TiVos? In other words, what are the CCI Byte settings? I'll obviously lose Capital News 9 and TW3 for local sports (Syracuse University and Siena College sports). I think I could still get a bare bones cable service from TWC that includes these channels for $7/month +/-. Verizon does not use SDV or set the CCI byte, both are factors in why I ordered FiOS TV. Losing TW3 will probably be the biggest loss for dropping TWC. Unless VZ has a package that offeres college sports, we lose the Syracuse games.

They are not offering a VOIP service. The phone service is going to be the existing Freedom Essentials plan that is currently being offered.
On the plus side, the sale agent that took my order for FiOS TV said that they would be supplying the Motorola 7232 DVR's, not the 7216.

I just ordered it. The installation date is Monday, March 28th. I ordered FiOS Ultimate (I didn't want to take a slower Internet rate than what I have now) with the multiroom DVR, two addition STBs and a cable card.

I'm betting on that announcement being at the end of this week.

Just installed their iPad app and it definitely requires a TWC Internet connection: (Click on the image or here to go full size) It's not replacing anyone's SlingBox anytime soon.

UPDATE: I contacted Time Warner Cable, and they told me the game "will be in hd", I don't buy it, but I threatened to cancel my service. Does that mean it will be carried on 1803? I have the March Madness On Demand app for my iPad, but watching it on a 9.7 in screen would be somewhat less than ideal. FWIW: TruTV is owned by Turner Broadcasting, a division of Time Warner. Time Warner Cable is a separate entity, it was spun off 2 years from Time Warner.

And in the fine print somewhere, RoadRunner service will be required for their iPad app to work. If the app is anything like the previews posted by Jeff Simmermon, it should be pretty decent. To enable the iPad app with your RoadRunner/Time Warner Cable services, you'll need to register a MyServices account.

I had a Verizon technician over to the house today and he said that they have all of the DVR and STB boxes in house and they should start taking orders on March 25th. The DVRs in stock are the 7216 models. That's a bit unfortunate, other markets are getting the 7232. The 7232 has a 500 Gb hard drive, which means 50+ hours of HD recording. It also appears that the 7216s had some "issues".

Regular RoadRunner is 10Mbps down (bursts up to 15Mbps), 1Mbps up RoadRunner Turbo is 15Mbps down (bursts up to 25Mbps), 1Mbps up It's still only 1 Mbs up? It's odd how the PowerBoost™ bursts only work for 15 - 20 seconds at a time. Basically, it's long enough to skew the speed tests so that you'll get results like After the PowerBoost stops, how long do you have to wait before you can get it again? I''ll keep the FiOS, I get the same speeds 24/7.

Since we probably 1 to 2 weeks from seeing FiOS TV becoming available, I decided to add my name last night to their notification list at Let Me Know When FiOS Internet & FiOS TV Are Available. You fill out your name and contact information. And there are two check boxes: - Notify me when FiOS Internet Service is available
- Notify me when FiOS TV is available
Since I already have FiOS Internet, I cleared that check box and checked the other and submitted the form. This morning I get the following email message from Verizon: Great news! FiOS Internet is now available and you can place your order today!
We show that service is available at XXXXXXXXX
Get free activation at a $49.99 value and extra savings with our best offer only when you order ONLINE!
Get the Deal HERE www22.verizon.com/residential/bundles/overview
If you prefer to speak directly with a sales representative, please call 1-866-266-2775 and follow the prompts to place your FiOS order.
If you’ve moved since making your FiOS inquiry, please visit www22.verizon.com/residential/fiostv/ and enter your phone number or address to check availability in your current home.
Thank you again for your patience and interest in FiOS! We look forward to having you as a Verizon FiOS customer. Come on Verizon, you couldn't process the check box selection (I double checked my selection before clicking the submit button)? Since they validated my address for FiOS Internet availability, they should have recognized that I am already a subscriber. Sometimes you just have to laugh. This is the same company that puts a notice on the bill to call and lock in the rates for 24 months. I tried calling it once and was told that 24 month lock in did not apply to me because I have a plan that is no longer offered. Since the cheapest new plan is more expensive and slower than my plan, I'm not changing it until I get a FiOS TV bundle.
