I'm not getting pixellation, but I'm tired of the monthly reboot of the Tuning Adapter. I just had to do it again a few minutes ago. The fastest way to o it for me is to do the following: - Unplug the USB cable from the Tuning Adapter. Within a minute you should see a message from the TiVo that the Tuning Adapter is no longer available.
- Press the Select button on the remote to clear the TiVo message
- Turn off the Tuning Adapter and wait 30 seconds
- Turn on the Tuning Adapter
- Wait until you get the steady blinking green light from the Tuning Adapter.
- Plug the USB cable back into the TiVo.
Within a minute or so, you should have the SDV channels back and a message on the TiVo that it has detected the Tuning Adapter. After that, you should be good to go until the next Tuning Adapter "event". You should not have to reboot the TiVo, just give it a minute or two.

My father-in-law's cablecard/tuning adapter stopped working the other night. The usual problem, steady green light, but his TiVo HD would not get any channels. He called TWC and they said power everything down and power it back up again. After the TiVo finally booted, he had all of the channels back.
This morning I turned on my TV, and I had a message on the TiVo that it had just detected a tuning adapter. I guess the TA reset itself or TWC pushed something out to it.
In addition to a cablecard/tuning adapter, I have a regular cable box (non-dvr) on another set. About a week ago, it would not tune in any channels. I got the "not authorized" message on every single channel. I called TWC and they said that can happen every once in a while and rebooting the box would fix the problem. While that did fix the problem, that's pretty hideous. I'm staring to expect taht I will have to reboot cable box and the cablecard/tuning adapter once a month.

Is that price part of a package deal or stand alone? Is it a promotional deal only good for a certain length of time? I had the 10/2 plan that everyone else has and right after I got FiOS (about 2 years ag), a Verizon salesman was walking through my neighborhood trying to get people to sign up. He didn't make much traction because most people around me have the TW package with phone/cable/internert. People seem to like having one bill, no matter how inflated it actually is. WHen I told him I already had FiOS, he said that he could raise the speed to 20/5 if I bundled it with my home Verizon phone service. That got me the 20/5 at 39.95 and was not a promotional rate.

Which one would be the best one to contact about getting the CC1 byte reset?

I don't see the fuss in seeing an ad when I pause the screen. If it's paused, the odds are that I'm not looking at the screen. TiVo has had about 2 profitable quarters since they started. If they can generate some revenue this way, it beats having the rates go up.

I have FiOS at the 20/5 plan for $39.95 a month and I can't see going back to TW anytime soon. Other than a few calls when it was first installed a couple of years ago, I haven't had to call Verizon FiOS support. If you need to have a service all, you'll get better service from TW than from Verizon, but I just haven't needed any service calls.

When I came home from work tonight, I saw my that my tuning adapter was in "das blinken" lights mode. It was doing the steady 8 blinks followed by a pause.
I called TWC and followed the usual procedure. The CSR was friendly, but almost nothing about the TA's. He was reading from a script and his suggested work around for the 8-blink was to unplug the power from the TA to a few seconds than plug it back in. At this point, he could not see the TA from his end. According to the CSR, the 8 blinks means that the TA is initializing.
As soon as I unplugged the TA, my TiVo displayed the "hey, where the tuning adapter go?" message, which is what you would expect. I plugged the TA back, the lights did a little dance and went out again. When you power cycle a TA, you need to press the power button on the front to get it back on. Which I did, and I got the steady green light that we must see in order to watch the Animal Planet in HD.
The TiVo did not detect the TA. TWC could see the TA and they said it was reporting that everything was good. I could not get the TiVo to see the TA. I unplugged the USB cable and back again, no change. At this point, I was passed to another CSR and he was familiar with the TA. We were able to verify that we had a good return signal, but the TA was not getting any commands from the TiVo.
I knew that if I restarted the TiVo, it would see the TA. Fast reboots are not in the TiVo DNA and I didn't feel like waiting 5-10 minutes for the TiVo to boot up. As a last ditch effort, I unplugged the USB cable for about 30 seconds. When I plugged it back in, the TiVo displayed the banner message that it found a TA and it could access the SDV channels.
My second question (the first one is why the TA is going into Das Blinken lights mode) is why it takes so long for the TiVo to see the TA. The ever helpful TWC CSR suggested that it was something with the TiVo and how it handles USB.
That didn't seem likely to me, but I wasn't going to argue the point with the man from TWC. TiVo is a pretty Linux box and Linux has worked with USB for years, this is not new technology.
I called up TiVo support and explained what happened and asked if there was any way to expedite TiVo's recognition of the TA. The TiVo CSR was pretty knowledgeable and said that the TiVo should recognize any newly attached USB device within 30 seconds. As long as the device was sending a signal over the USB.
Hmm, that points the finger pack to the Tuning Adapter, which is still beta fresh for our purposes. The TiVo CSR's suggestion was to unplug both the USB and power from the TA the next time I had to power cycle the dizzy little box. I'll experiment when it happens again and see which combination gets the TA working with the TiVo is in the shortest amount of time.

The first couple of weeks with the Tuning Adapters were a little shaky, but it seems pretty reliable right now. The supply of the TA's is still hit or miss, but my father-in-law just ordered digital cable last week and they brought out a TA for his TiVo HD.

any idea when tivo will update the channel listing? Probably not until TWC updates it's own online guide. As of right now, both TWC and TiVo still list 1868 as Tennis HD.

Channel 1868 doesn't even show up TWC listings on their own web site. I wonder how long it takes to get that updated.

It's working for me. Of course the TiVo still thinks it's the Tennis Channel.....

It's unclear if the entry of FiOS TV into the local market would also force prices to drop. . Don't count on it. TW didn't drop the RoadRunner rates when FiOs came into town. When FiOs started wiring up my town, TW dropped my RR rates for 3 months as a one time inducement to stay with RoadRunner. But that was a one time deal. I jumped to FiOs the day they came down my street. I'm still paying less a month on FiOs than I was on RoadRunner. Unless Verizon offers a cheaper alternative to the "All the best" plan, TW is just going to ignore them.

It's obvious TW didn't test these things with Tivo. I don't think the problem is between the TiVo and the TA, the problem appears with how the TA communicates back to TW. I'm not sure. The lady put me on hold twice (presumably the first time to ask someone what a Tuning Adapter was) and the first "hit" didn't do anything.... I asked about the firmware upgrade and she had no idea what I was talking about. You should escalate this past tier 1 support. They do have people there who know about the TA's, you just have to get the right person. The TA's are still new to these guys, they need to share the knowledge across their people. Given the newnewss of the TA's and the tiny number of them out in the field, we are essentially beta testing the devices. We should probably make a list of the people at TWC (both the CSR's and the techs who do the truck rolls) who know how to diagnose issues related to the tuning adapters.

I never received any mailing for a two year lock in for the rates. I don't think I would have take it the offer, if FiOs TV comes in, I would consider making the jump.

I didn't have to have them send a hit down to my TA. In my case, it wouldn't have worked as they couldn't even see my TA from their end. Once I rebooted it, they could see it and in my case they said the problem was with the return signal. They sent out a tech who did clean up the signal a bit.
What does sending "a hit" down to the TA involve? It seems odd that resetting the TA requires resetting your Internet connection. If I was still using RoadRunner, that would have annoyed me.
