The FiOS installer should have programmed the FiOS remote to operate your TV set. He couldn't get one mine (a cheap Insignia HD set), so I looked up the TV remote codes on the VZ site.
The starting point is the "Need help with your remote control?" page. We get the Verizon P265 remote. The instructions for programming it are here and the codes for the various TV sets are here.
